Aori Squid Dish

Hi everyone. Today's dish is Aori squid. This squid is called “aoriika ” in Japanese. The squid costs about  2,000 to 8,000 yen per kilogram. It is also called the king of squid because it is sweet and very delicious. Also, this squid is precious because it is rarely sold in the market.

What kind of squid is it? 

The characteristic of Aori squid is that its eyes are blue and very beautiful. The squid in the picture on the right was taken as soon as it was caught. This squid changes color when it gets excited.The squids in the picture on the right is white. Squids turn white after death, just like squid sold in the supermarket.

How do you eat this squid?

1. The most delicious way to eat it is sashimi. 

Compared to other squids, it is a thicker and larger, so you can make a lot of sashimi.
 The average size is one kilogram. It's also a big enough that one can catch four or five kilograms of squid.


2. The second is Squid    Yukhoe. It is called “ikanoyukke” in Japanese. This is really good.

The seasonings are soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, mirin, ginger, garlic, green onions and eggs. I made it for my friend, and he was very happy to finish it in seconds. This is a dish that I would like you to make.

3.The last dish is grilled legs squid. I think everyone has tried this dish at least once. However, this grilled squid is different from the others. The legs are very thick and the texture is very good. Please try it.
